Toy Story 4: Pixar’s President Discusses Their Upcoming Films

Pixar Jim Morris

Pixar’s President, Jim Morris, was in Australia yesterday for a presentation of the studio’s upcoming slate of films.  While The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory received the most attention, as would be expected, Toy Story 4 was touched upon briefly.  Here’s what I’ve been able to find, from various sources…

The site News.com.au offered the following information, suggesting we’re in for another tearjerker:

While it was well known that film would be a romance, Morris confirmed the love story would be between Woody and Bo Peep (voiced by Tom Hanks and Annie Potts) – putting the pair up there with Leo and Kate and Bogie and Bacall among the greatest movie romances of all time.

“I certainly am seeing the seeds of that in the work they’ve done so far; I was pretty choked up,” Morris admitted.

“It’s not a continuation off the back of Toy Story 3; it’s a new chapter in the world.”

Filmink.com.au stated that the original cast will be back:

Morris went on to describe the new instalment as ‘a love story,’ which focuses on the relationship between Woody and Bo-Peep, while the regular cast, including Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, are all set to reprise their familiar roles.

Stack.net.au added a little more about Woody and Bo:

Morris mentioned that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the first Toy Story film.  It was the first ever computer-generated animation film, and went on to spawn two sequels.  Now, Pixar have announced a fourth entry into the series, however it will begin a new chapter in the toys’ life, and won’t be a continuation of Andy’s story.  Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will return to reprise their roles, and Toy Story 4 will focus on Woody’s relationship with Bo-Peep; their back-story, and where she came from in the first place.

Techradar.com spoke of humor and additional characters:

With the help of his right-hand man, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Woody sets out to find his long lost love, who was either lost or sold a long time ago – expect plenty of wacky adventures and new characters along the way.

And while I haven’t heard the term “married” thrown around before in regards to Woody and Bo – I don’t know if it’s something that was actually said by Morris, or if the site is taking liberties with the subject matter (considering the fake Finding Dory trailer in the article, I have some doubts) – I’ll include this quote from Junkee, just in case:

Nothing is revealed about Toy Story 4, other than that the creative heads at Pixar were so enamoured with the question of whether Woody and Bo Peep got married that they just had to go back to the well.

Although it’s not much, I’m always excited to see any little mention of Toy Story 4 that might provide another piece to the puzzle.  There are quite a few events planned for the next several months that may give us more clues.  Until then, you can look back at what we know to date, and watch for news to be posted here as it’s announced!
